Ruka got off to a flying start to modern sales tools. Mallow’s template for data platform architecture, tailored for medium-sized organisations, saves time and money

Ski passes, accommodation, and equipment rental. As one of Finland’s most popular winter sports resorts, these are Ruka’s main products. However, if the data platforms are not up to date, understanding the core business and analysing sales data can be anything but simple. Ruka’s commercial director Kaisa Sirniö reveals that the modernisation project of the data platform was initiated so that sales would have access to efficient tools and sufficient predictability.

“We needed a reporting system where sales data produced by different business functions would be accurate, comparable, and easily accessible. Data is crucial in pricing and campaign building. Before the solution provided by Mallow, our data was scattered in spreadsheets and separate independent systems of different business functions”, says Sirniö.

Good planning is half the success

The data platform built on Azure is flexible and relatively easy for the organisation to implement. Mallow, having successfully executed numerous modernisation projects, offers a template for data platform architecture, tailor-made for medium-sized organisations. This is how Tomi Asp, the Azure Data Architect who led the modernisation project for Ruka, describes the project:

“In our solution a significant portion of time-consuming components has been thought out in advance, allowing us to get started quickly and cost-effectively. With Ruka, we offered a pleasant surprise when the ski pass sales reporting system was completed under budget and ahead of schedule,” says Asp.

“Mallow’s solution was highly agile, as many aspects had clearly been thought through in advance. We felt like we were speaking the same language,” says Sirniö.

A future trail cleared

Ruka now has a modern, cloud-based data platform in use, where the sales data of the core business is easily accessible.

“We have taken a significant leap forward, and the operational management of different business functions, as well as sales, can now work based on unified data,” says Sirniö.

According to Asp, one of Azure’s strengths is the fact that it will be a secure foundation in the future.

“Ruka has a skilled and capable team that has successfully implemented the new reporting system. The system is built in a way that whatever demands the future brings, what is needed can be added to the current platform,” says Asp.
